Defining what creates business value and understanding how to capture it

We work with executive leadership teams to ensure they have a shared vision of what they are trying to achieve in terms of purpose and performance. Collective leadership alignment on an organisations north star, its reason for existing (over and above delivering shareholder returns) and clarity on its distinctive value proposition are critical foundation elements for a leadership team to work towards a common goal.

We put a great deal of time and effort into taking our clients leadership teams on the journey with us so that they fully believe in and own the design and implementation.

Our approach is to work through a holistic diagnostic methodology intended to understand our client’s internal and external realities. We will often do this by facilitating a highly collaborative stakeholder input process, via a range of engagement channels, to solicit a diverse set of perspectives. The quality of our subsequent breakthrough analysis, insights and recommendations comes from bringing sector specific thought leadership on how our clients benchmark against peers and evaluating how they are positioned to deal with future market trends.

Our strategy work will often focus on a few key questions:

Where do we want to be?

a. Setting a company mission and requirements
b. Setting a bold ambition
c. Clarity on the design principles to succeed

Where are we today?

a. Establishing clear baselines
i. Quantitative (OPEX, CAPEX, Headcount)
ii. Qualitative (Internal and external strengths and weaknesses)
iii. Identification of gaps

Where are the opportunities?

a. Options for optimising
i. Opportunities with existing portfolio
b. Options for growth
i. Create competitive advantage in adjoining areas

What is the size of the prize?

a. Qualifying opportunities for synergies, efficiencies and value that can be
captured

If your organisation is looking to form a clear strategy, based on understanding the internal and external realities then we have a clear approach that can serve to align a leadership around a shared vision.

We support client transformations across entire organizations, regions, and business functions. The aim has always been to deliver a step change in performance in support of delivering the overall strategy. Whereas a lot of our strategy work is top down our transformation programmes will often be as much about winning over hearts and minds as they are about changing organisation structures, processes, or systems. Thus, we firmly believe in taking a much more bottoms up approach where we are committed to engaging the front line, as they are often the ones closest to the reality of the business and often an untapped source of innovative solutions.

We have a great track record in bringing the breadth of capabilities and expertise required to support deliver sustained transformations. If your organisation is falling short of its full potential our approach, people and partnering philosophy can help you achieve your strategic ambitions.

Increasingly our clients are recognising the value of adopting agile ways of working that allow them to adapt quickly, efficiently, and effectively to the changing conditions around them, this has particularly been the case during the COVID pandemic. We support clients through their agile journey from educating leadership of the principles of agile, to coaching teams in the use of agile methodologies and tools, to optimising organisation structures for agility by delayering the hierarchy and enacting agile processes at scale.

For leadership this journey often requires changes to mindset and behaviors. This is as much about recognising the imperative to set bold ambitions, begin the journey through rapid experiments where learning can happen quickly and then move at pace where the are opportunities to be seized.

Determining how an organisation operates to fulfil the strategy, including the organisation structure, people, processes and technology

More and more of our clients are taking a cross functional and multi-disciplinary approach to delivering a step change in performance across their organisations and this is often only possible through designing and deploying an effective operating model. An operating model establishes how an organisation functions to deliver the strategy.

An agile and iterative approach to transforming as you go and not over designing the end state is essential so that a business can continue to perform while it transforms , tests and learns along the way.

Good operating model design can deliver a number of benefits

  • Organizational effectiveness by focusing on only the right work that delivers value, aligned to the right skills, the right structure, the right people and the right measures of success.
  • Optimising the hierarchy to put decision making at the right place in an organisation so it can react faster and more effectively to changing conditions. This empowerment of an organisation reduces bureaucracy at the top and creates greater shared ownership of a company’s success across its people.
  • Shared ownership of outcomes such that actions and activity all centre around delivering end to end goals that break down silos and improve interconnectivity between teams.
  • Greater collaboration around a shared purpose that will allow for a more flexible organisation that combines knowledge of different specialists and in turn deliver more engaged employees.
  • Empowering teams that know what they are working on and why

Operations Excellence looks different for every company as it is as much a mindset as well as a set of principles with supporting tools that allows organisations to achieve their performance objectives. At Fenroc there are a few key elements where we focus our support for clients.

Management System Design and Implementation

We have deep experience in the systematic development, implementation, and operation of complex Operational Management systems across multinational organisations. Building on the values and behavioural models of an institution, we have the capability and track record of implementing managements systems that reflect “what is important” operating in High Hazard industries.

Safety and Operational Leadership Development

Fundamental to the Safe, Compliant and Efficient operation of sites is the quality of operational leaders. In support of operational leaders, we have developed an advanced blended learning program called “The Operations Excellence Programme”. An online platform provides bite-sized learning on critical topics underpinning what good Operations looks like. This is supported by a robust coaching model and on-site assignments, which allow candidates to try out new concepts and reflect on what they learnt. Short face to face workshops builds the community of operational leaders and allows for peer learning to flourish. The program is then underpinned by a sustained learning model where Alumni are nudged to continue to learn and support each other through an online network.

Operational Leadership Coaching

Our Experienced Operation coaches encourage incumbent leaders to tackle operational issues in a safe and supportive environment. Our role is not to judge but meet leaders where they are and walk side by side in allowing leaders to resolve their ongoing operational issues.

Operating Discipline

The concept of operating discipline is bets defined as “Ensuring we do we do what we should, every time”. As operational leaders do we challenge ourselves and ask ourselves the critical question How do I know? We have a proven model that allows an organisation to define its Critical Safety Principles, communicate them in a compelling way and provide a support structure to monitor conformance.

Safety culture – Embedding Safety Leadership and Behaviours

We believe a safe operation is also an efficient operation. Safety is good business and as such we are committed to helping leaders develop their EQ. The application and understanding of Human Performance is critical to building an environment of Care and Trust. How a leader responds to bad news is fundamental to building a “speak-up” culture. Care and trust are fundamental attributes of any good operational leader. We provide learning modules and support structures to encourage incumbent operational leaders to build self-confidence and develop the humility to build a two-way open relationship with their teams

Just Culture

“People do not come to work to make a mistake” – How do we investigate incidents and understand the Human Factors at the root cause of many incidents? We have a proven model that will aid organisations explore the underlying factors that contribute to people making mistakes and avoids the blame culture, prevalent in many industries.

Cow and Risk Assessments

We have experienced Operations leaders who have implemented an integrated electronic Control of Work system across multiple regions and site. Comprehensive understanding of Risk is fundamental to providing a safe place to work. Therefore, robust risk assessment is critical. We provide a range of learning offers and onsite support to help operational leaders and their teams develop their skills in this space
